If I pay a pound or two more for a vinyl release than I might buying from Juno then so be it, the reward is in the continuation of the artists & labels I love and, whilst Juno and their like are often a lifeline for a DJ in a northern English city which does not cater for my musical tastes, the opportunity to cut out the middleman is irresistible. As a model for keeping a commercial edge to artist ‘product’ in these days of instant streaming it strikes me as fair, equable and sustainable, especially with the opportunity to buy the full range of formats from vinyl to streaming. I like that the bulk of my payment goes into the pockets of the artists and labels. I’ve been a punter on Bandcamp for several years now, having originally been introduced by Tom Green (Another Fine Day) who was an early artist to take to the platform.
